Puerto Morelos
Puerto Morelos is convenient to the city yet cannot be further from the high-rise-Spring-Break atmosphere. This ancient fishing village was magically passed over by the mega-hotels and is tucked behind the second largest barrier reef in the world. White pristine beaches offer a view onto the Caribbean that is a different postcard every day.
The small town is populated by indigenous cultures with a growing population of transplants from various parts of the world. A Chiropractor is running a kite-surfing business, landscaper is now a resort and dive-shop owner, along with a slew of others with interesting individual stories and wide backgrounds all tied together by one common thread; they adore this community and it's culture. Together they have created a culture all their own.
The town square is surrounded by quaint shops; restaurants serving Thai, French, Mexican and Caribbean food; a local "mercado"; and a taxi stand. Children
play soccer in the square, and it's all anchored by the church at one end and of town and the sea at the other.
Walking or biking is the best way to see the local sights. Beyond the square there are more shops, a bakery, and a handicraft market. Walk the public beach, stop for a refreshment and let the sea air remove your worries. "All is bueno in Puerto Morelos"
